Aloxi: Indications

Aloxi/palonosetron blocks the actions of chemicals in the body that can trigger nausea and vomiting. Aloxi is used to prevent nausea and vomiting that may be caused by medicine to treat cancer (chemotherapy). It may also be used to prevent nausea and vomiting after surgery. It works by blocking the hormone (serotonin) that causes vomiting.

This medication is given by injection into a vein by a health care professional. It is usually given 30 minutes before chemotherapy or right before anesthesia for surgery….

Aloxi: Side Effects

Side effects of using this drug may include: headache, constipation, diarrhea, or dizziness may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Get medical help right away if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur: severe dizziness, fainting, fast/irregular heartbeat.

Seek immediate medical help if you experience any of the following symptoms of a serious allergic reaction include: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing….

Aloxi: Precaution

You should not use Aloxi if you are allergic to palonosetron or to similar medicines such as dolasetron (Anzemet), granisetron (Kytril), or ondansetron (Zofran). Tell your doctor if you are using other medicine and if you have any illness, especially heart problems.

Because Aloxi/palonosetron can cause dizziness and drowsiness, do not drive and use heavy machinery until you are sure you can perform this activity safely.

During pregnancy and breastfeeding is not recommended to use this medicine without your doctor’s advice….
