Depen/penicillamine is used to treat severe rheumatoid arthritis that has not responded to other treatments, Wilson’s disease (a condition in which high levels of copper in the body cause damage to the liver, brain, and other organs), and a certain disorder which causes kidney stones called cystinuria.
This drug is taken by mouth on an empty stomach,1 hour before or 2 hours after meals, as directed by your doctor for your condition. Dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment….
Depen: Side Effects
Most common side effects of this medication are: stomach or abdominal pain, nausea/vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea, and decreased sense of taste. If any of these persist or worsen, call your doctor.
If you notice any of the following serious side effects seek medical help immediately: an allergic reaction – rash, itching, difficulty breathing, closing of the throat, swelling of the lips, tongue, or face, or hives; black, tarry stools; bleeding or bruising; blood in the urine; burning, itching, peeling, or redness of skin; changes in taste; chills; cough; dark urine; difficult urination; fever; general feeling of discomfort; joint pain; muscle weakness; severe stomach pain; shortness of breath; skin lesions; sore throat; swelling of the feet or legs; vision problems; weight gain; or wheezing….
Before using this medicine inform your doctor if you have any type of allergies. Tell your doctor if you are using other medicine and if you have or ever have had any of the following conditions: Goodpasture syndrome, myasthenia gravis, kidney disease, aplastic anemia, or decreased blood platelets or white blood cells.
During pregnancy and breastfeeding is not recommended to use this medicine without your doctor’s advice….
