Astemizole: Indications

Astemizole is an antihistamine. Antihistamines prevent sneezing, runny nose, itching and watering of the eyes, and other allergic symptoms. Astemizole is used to treat allergies, hives (urticaria), and other allergic inflammatory conditions.

Astemizole: Side Effects

If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking astemizole and call your doctor immediately or seek emergency medical attention: an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives); an irregular heartbeat; fainting; or seizures.

Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur, such as: drowsiness or dizziness; headache; nervousness; nausea, diarrhea, or abdominal discomfort; dry mouth; or dry skin or itchiness….

Astemizole: Precaution

Tell your doctor if you have pre-existing heart, kidney or liver disease, asthma or breathing problems, allergies or a history of drug dependence. Alcohol intake should be limited as it may aggravate drug side effects. This drug should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Your doctor should be consulted before breast-feeding….
