Cortrosyn: Indications

Cortrosyn/cosyntropin is indicated for the ACTH Stimulation Test which measures the ability of the adrenal cortex to respond to ACTH by producing cortisol appropriately; ACTH is a hormone produced in the pituitary gland that stimulates the adrenal glands. Administration is by intravenous or intramuscular injection.

This test is helpful in determining if the adrenal and pituitary glands are functioning normally. It is most often used when adrenal gland disorders, such as Addison’s disease or pituitary insufficiency, are suspected….

Cortrosyn: Side Effects

Minor irritation at the injection site such as irritation and redness may occur.

Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may include: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing….

Before using this medication, tell your health care provider your medical history. Before using this medicine inform your doctor if you have any type of allergies.
